Tim Story: Fantastic Director

Opening this Friday, the movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer joins the parade of sequels this summer. The movie is directed by African American director Tim Story. He found relative success with both Fantastic Four and Barbershop, which he looks to surpass with this weekend’s release.

Tim Story:

“A few people called me about the black thing and said: ‘This is major. You’re a black director on “Fantastic Four.” ‘But all I was thinking was: ‘I just don’t want to screw up.’ But then people were like, ‘If you screw this up, we all got a problem,’ and I said, ‘Oh, man, I got that on me now?’”

Read an interview with Tim Story and Avi Arad from just before the 2005 release of the first Fantastic Four movie.

Personally, other than seeing a movie done by an African American director, I just want to see the Silver Surfer (voiced by Lawrence Fishburne) come to life on the big screen. Also, Kerry Washington who reprises her role as Alicia Masters and Andre Braugher co-star.
