BLACK PANTHER VS. LUKE CAGE
We help John Singleton choose which movie to make
Director John Singleton (“Four Brothers”) has a tough choice to make. After years of talking about plans for a possible “Luke Cage” film, the director now says he’s also floated a possible “Black Panther” feature film. So, which will he do? We’d love for him to do both, but Singleton says he’s still thinking on it. Well, John, we’d like to help. Here’s are reasons for both that should help you out.

WHY HE SHOULD DO ‘LUKE CAGE’
Known for tough, urban dramas, Singleton seems spot-on to direct the tale of Cage, a man wrongly convicted of a crime before gaining steel-hard skin in a government experiment.
With “Shaft” and “Four Brothers” under his directing belt, seeing Singleton re-imagining Luke Cage’s origin for modern moviegoers is too tempting to pass up for any fan of the character.
Singleton’s “2 Fast 2 Furious” had no lack of young, sexy ladies, and it would be interesting to see how the director casts supporting roles for Cage such as Misty Knight and Colleen Wing.
This could be Singleton’s “Blade.” With an R rating, some great dialogue and killer action that tears through the screen, a “Cage” movie could easily be an opening-weekend hero for the director and Marvel Studios.

WHY HE SHOULD DO ‘BLACK PANTHER’
Even though Singleton’s known for smaller-scale films, the stories inside those films are often epic, and the tale of a young African king who’s sucked into political intrigue and crimefighting could be amazing.
With “Higher Learning” and “Rosewood” on his résumé, Singleton’s never shied away from high-concept ideas, and “Panther” would let him flex those muscles again.
Outside of “2 Fast 2 Furious,” Singleton’s almost never used visual effects in his films, but with “Black Panther,” he could finally dig deep into that bag of treats for a costume and acrobatic hero.
This could be Singleton’s “Iron Man.” If Marvel’s new initiative’s proven anything to fans, it’s that the company can pick the right talent for the right gig—check out the early “Iron Man” buzz—and Singleton’s perfect for “Black Panther.”
