Mario Van Peebles to Direct Sci-Fi Movie

mario.jpg Mario Van Peebles is bringing a script he has been developing for 6 years to the big screen. He was inspired to write the script by his travels to India and the mythology of the Aztec Calender ending in 2012. The movie is titled “The Uniter.”

The sci-fi screenplay is about a political fugitive who comes from the future back to the present in order to instruct a 13-year-old how to use his powers to unite the warring factions of Earth before it’s too late.

I am a huge fan of time travel stories and the little bit of story that’s out has got me interested, especially anytime a writer is working in some aspects of mythology. If he brings the talent he showed in directing New Jack City, Posse, and Panther, along with a solid cast, he should be able to bring us a pretty good movie and a sleeper hit. Its also good to see another black director/screenwriter venture into the science fiction genre. Now whether or not if there will be black actors cast is a whole different story, but I will reserve comment for when the movie’s cast. I am not saying he has to cast black actors, but I think I’ll just wait and see.
