Book of the Week: Superman-Batman 48

supermanbatman48

Okay, I really like this book.  It’s one of the few that I make a point to read every month.  In the current story thread, Superman has decided to rid the Earth of all Kryptonite with the help of Batman.  What he found out in the last issue was that there is way more Kryptonite on Earth than it should be and most of it was located in a bunker in Smallville.  When they got there, Superman and Batman ran into Amanda Waller and the Last Line, Waller’s  government initiative to deal with Superman if he ever became a threat.  The Last Line was outfitted with Kryptonite weapons.  That issue ended with Waller about to unmask Bruce, and Superman facing off against a human/Doomsday/Kryptonite monster called the All-American Boy.  In this book, the knock down drag out fight between Superman and Doomsday is recalled and reenacted in Smallville as opposed to the original battle being in Metropolis.   The fight is well drawn and easy to follow.  I do wonder why it takes Waller so long to unmask Batman, but I am even more surprised that a person with her resources and intelligence has never figured out that he’s Bruce Wayne, but that’s beside the point.  The fight is personal for Superman, and this issue reminds me why I never tire of Superman.  And the writing is good enough to make you really feel how vulnerable Superman can be.  Pick it up if you haven’t already.
