Top Five Black Super-villains

Dr. Amanda Blake Waller

She has been a thorn in the side of anyone good in the D.C. universe.  Just about anything dealing with government covert operations or secret government organizations or secret government projects, you could almost be certain that she has a hand in it.  She seems to thrive on wanting to take down superheroes.  She’s not anti-alien like Lex Luthor has been portrayed, she is more of the “We can take care of ourselves, and we need protection from anyone with superpowers.”  What makes her great is that her motivations are actually good, but her purpose is twisted and she would stoop to any level to get the result that she wants.  Currently, she’s the co-leader of Checkmate.

Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur)

Think of a psychotic Charles Darwin with superpowers, and you get Apocalypse.  He has taken survival of the fittest to an extreme.  He also has no problem in manipulating anyone’s DNA, mutant or human, to serve his ends:  An all out war where only the strongest remain standing.   I don’t want to diminish him by comparing him to a cockroach but if ever there was a worldwide disaster, you could almost be asured that he and the Hulk would be the last ones standing.  His level of evil knows no bounds, and just the fact that he wants a postapocalyptic paradise is chilling.

Black Manta

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that he’s one of the oldest Black super-villains making his first appearance in 1967.   He has been the nemesis of Aquaman since then.  As far as rivalries go, the enmity between he and Aquaman is epic.  He has cost Aquaman more than most super-villains cause any of their rivals.  He killed Aquaman’s infant son which ultimately led to the break-up of Aquaman’s marraige to Mera.

Moses Magnum

Avengers, the Punisher, Black Panther, the X-Men, Spiderman, and Luke Cage just to name a few, have battled with this guy.  He was an arms expert of the calibur of someone like Iron Man, and was later enhanced genetically by Apocalypse.  What was he really after?  I don’t really know, but I do know that he spent much of his time battling teams and pretty much getting the better of them, before and after having superpowers.  He just seems to want to build things and blow things up.

Mr. Glass (Elijah Price)

A true sociopath, Elijah Price killed hundreds of people in a variety of disasters (crashing trains, building fire, and plane crash) to prove that there has to be someone who’s the opposite of him.  I like to think of him as a fanboy gone bad.  He was born with a rare condition that makes his bones brittle and was teased as a child and was called Mr. Glass.  He has an obsession with comic books and theorizes that comic books are modern day heiroglyphics, a reflection of reality.  So, he devises as way to kill as many people as possible to find someone with the opposite conditon as he, just to prove a point.  Other than being a murderous maniac, he’s also pretty creepy.
