We finally get to the bottom of the whole Ultimate Black Panther identity question. I was really bothered by the fact the it was Captain America in the Panther costume in Ultimates Vol 3. I’m glad to see that we have an actual Panther and not Cap. In regards to the issue I’m going to spoil it (so you have been warned)
Essentially the T’Challa was severely injured by a Panther to the point where the King got desperate and asked the US for help. They saved his life and turned him into a super soldier similar to Captain America (with a few tweaks like claws and night vision). Instead of returning him to the King, Fury claimed that he was now property of S.H.I.E.L.D.. I won’t get into the whole people as property thing aka slavery. Fury wants the Panther to join the Ultimates but he wants Cap to train him first. They go toe to toe for about 3 hours, now we know that T’Challa is a bad ass. During a training missions Cap discovers that T’challa wants to return to Wakanada but Fury wont let him. Cap decides to take the Panthers identity ( which explains Ultimates vol 3) so that T’Challa can return home.
The most intriguing thing about the whole issue was the fact the BP didnt utter a word the whole issue, because his vocal chords where damaged in the accident. It adds a level of mystery to the character that differenitiates him form the 616 version. I was always bothered by the Ultimate verison of characters that are in indsitinguisable from the 616 verison (like the Punisher and Daredevil). Its a seperate universe you should change things up.
