Dragonball Evolution Review

I have dogged this movie since it was announced.  I saw the movie, and was told by The Powers That Be that there wasn’t going to be a quick review.  I don’t write reviews but here’s one that sums up my general feelings. There are spoilers and some bad language, so be advised.  This guy is hilarious.  Even if you aren’t interested in the movie, this is entertaining.  Also, we should get him to do reviews here.

Comics in stores 4/15/09

My pick for last was Battle for the Cowl #2.   I can’t tell you why I enjoyed it but I did.     Everybody knows (or at least I do), Dick Grayson will become Bruce’s replacement as the Bat.   The only thing that was in question was who would challenge him for the mantle.    The whole thing my reminds of The Lion in Winter.  In 1183 King Henry the II summoned his three sons to determine his heir to the throne, the whole film revolves around each of the sons plots to become the heir.    In issue # 2 Jason Todd  makes the first move and becomes a gun strapped version of Batman.  Tim decides that Jason needs to be stopped unfortunately he gets his ass handed to him by Jason.   This sets up a show down in issue 3 between Dick and Jason for the mantle of the Bat.   Its a very simple plot but it works.

Throw Back Sci-Fi Trailer`

Battle Beyond the Stars was one of my favorite sci-fi movies as a kid.  I know that it has a lot of similarities to Star Wars, but it actually is supposed to be a space version of the Magnificent Seven.

Weekend Box Office 4/10/09 – 4/12/09

Dragonball debuts at #8 which shouldnt be a surprise since this movie should have came out 8 years ago when the this  was a hot property.    I think it has the same problem Speed Racer had, the audience for the film (boys 8-10) was too narrow to make a big splash.

This Week in Television 4/13/09 – 4/20/09

Terminator the Sarah Conner Chrononichiles aired it last episode for the season (hopefully not the last one ever) and it was the best of the season.  We finally got to see glimpse of the man John will eventually become, he finally shows some leadership.   The writers did what every finale should do they gave you a cliff hanger,  unanswered questions, and a WTF moment.     In regards to the shows future, I think we will hear something from FOX in June.   Hopefully they will factor in DVR numbers, Sci-fi shows like TSCC, Lost and Smallville get nearly a 30% jump whne you factor in DVR.

New this week

  • Chuck “Chuck Versus the First Kill” 2×20. When Chuck’s father (Scott Bakula) is abducted by Fulcrum forces, Chuck attempts to rescue him by putting his faith in a most unlikely person – his double-crossing ex-girlfriend, Jill (Jordana Brewster). Meanwhile, at Buy More, the nerd herd tries to derail a corporate evaluation supervised by Emmett (Tony Hale).

  • Heroes “1961″ 3×23. Angela delves into her past and reveals long-held secrets. Elsewhere, Mohinder finds out that his dad was involved in an old government operation.

  • Medium “Then…and Again” 5×10. When a shooter guns down Allison and Devalos, Allison awakens five years earlier in her own past – and nine months pregnant with third child Marie. Now in 2004, Allison’s weaving dreams inform her that an innocent man will be convicted of murder, so she works to clear his good name.

  • Reaper “The Good Soil” 2×07. The Devil orders Sam and Morgan to spend time together, but Morgan bails when it’s time to capture a soul. Meanwhile, Nina tries to take Ben flying, but his fear of heights gets in the way.

  • Fringe “Unleashed” 1×16. An animal-rights organization’s rescue mission at a laboratory backfires when it releases a vicious beast, almost mythological in appearance with a lion’s body and eagle’s talons, and Charlie is in danger of being its latest victim.

  • Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire “Our Bounties Ourselves” 1×03. Krod fights bounty hunters hired by Dongalor, who worries that the arrival of a weapons inspector will put his relationship with his new girlfriend in danger.

Harry Potter news

Hi guys, it’s Hanako, the Potter Geek returning to Black Geekdom after a long absence (caused in large part to Warner Bros. decision to postpone the release of Half-Blood Prince to this summer). But anyhoo! Now that the release is less than 4 months away and Deathly Hallows has begun filming, it’s time to update you all on what’s going on in the Potterverse. (Warning: this post will contain casting information and potential movie spoilers).

Half-Blood Prince
Finally! We are getting closer to the long-awaited release of Half-Blood Prince, which will open in theaters and IMAX on July 17, 2009. Recently, the Japanese International trailer was released, and it can be viewed here.

Other videos:
International Featurette
Regal First Look

You can also find out current HBP information by visiting the official website.

Deathly Hallows
Release dates:
Part 1 – November 19, 2010
Part 2 – July 15, 2011

Casting News: Recently, the casting of several key characters have been confirmed, suggesting that Warner Bros. will try with the final two movies to make up for the mistakes/omissions they made in the first 5 (or 6, depending on how HBP turns out). DH see the return of Dobby the House-Elf, along with Mr. Ollivander and (possibly) Fleur Delacour. Other casting notables include Bill Weasley (finally!), Mundungus Fletcher, Xenophilius Lovegood, Aberforth Dumbledore, and Reg Cattermole, among others.

With the casting news has come confirmations of several key scenes being filmed, including the much-debated Epilogue, Malfoy Manor, Shell Cottage, and possibly the Bill/Fleur wedding.

With the casting of these characters with small yet significant roles, as well as some of the key scenes that made DH the best book in the series (in my humble opinion, of course), it seems as though WB will use the two-movie arc to fully play out the final chapter in Harry’s story, which is as it should be.

This week in Televison 4/6/09 – 4/12/09

I’m really looking forward to the season finale of  “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles“.   You would think that the upcoming film would give some buzz to the show.   I think this may be the last season for the show.   If  Fox has to choose between it and “Dollhouse”.  “Dollhouse” needs to go.  It has a flawed premise how can you connect to a main character that essentially a different person every week.   At least on “Quantam Leap” you always knew it was Sam stuck in a different situation.   We don’t know who Echo is as a character, so how can we connect to her.
